Goalie Competition Heats Up

Aug 17, 2012, 10:48 AM EDT

Over the past couple weeks, five student-athletes – senior Maddie Fox, sophomore Jennifer Jasper, sophomore Sarah Voight, freshman Naomi Willett and freshman Elyse Hight – have been competing for the starting goalie job on the Notre Dame women’s soccer team.

Fighting Irish Digital Media has been inside practice and brings us the latest installment in a behind-the-scenes look at the competition. Today’s update features Irish assistant coach Dawn Greathouse mic’d up at practice.

Head coach Randy Waldrum also gives his take, discussing how Voight and Hight have begun to separate themselves from the rest of the competition, following their play in this past weekend’s exhibition games.

The Irish begin their season tonight when they takes on Wisconsin, beginning at 8:00 pm ET at McClimon Soccer Complex in Madison. Follow @NDsoccernews and @NDSoccer for all the updates from the season opener.
