The stage is set.

Following a pair of quarterfinal victories, Canada and the United States will clash in an exciting matchup on Monday at 2:45 pm ET on NBC Sports Network.

Team U.S.A. defeated New Zealand, 2-0, thanks to goals from Abby Wambach and Sydney Leroux. Shannon Boxx (’99), who injured her hamstring in the opener against France, was in uniform, but did not play.

In the final match of the day, Melissa Tancredi (’04), Candace Chapman (’05) and the Canadian national team topped host Great Britain, by the same score. Jonelle Filigno and Christine Sinclair found the back of the net for Canada.

Tancredi did not score for the first time in the 2012 Olympics, but played all 90 minutes, and is tied with Wambach as the leading scorer.

Like Boxx, Chapman was injured in last week’s opener, and remained sidelined today.

The stakes will be high on Monday at Old Trafford (the home of Manchester United), as the winning squad will advance to the gold medal match on Aug. 9. Regardless of the outcome, at least one Notre Dame alumnae will earn a medal, the fourth consecutive Games in which a former Irish player will earn that distinction.

Mark it down. United States vs. Canada. Monday, Aug. 6. 2:45 pm ET. NBC Sports Network.
